Much to his chagrin, "Michele" (Mi-kel-lay) is not a Rhode Island native. He was born and raised on Long Island, NY, spending many hours on the water (and a little time in it) due to his rowing on various crew teams. Michele moved to Providence in 2005 to start his degree in Biology at Brown University, and joined La Gondola Providence in the June of 2008. Michele prides himself on his complete lack of pre-gondola singing experience, his zest for adventure and exploration, and on having the distinction of being one of the gondoliers who has yet to fall into the river. After earning his Master's in Biomedical Sciences at Tufts University, doing cancer research, caring for his marsupial friends, and cooking up a storm, Michele found himself accepted into the medical school at Tulane University. We at La Gondola Providence are very proud of him, and wish him well in all of his future endeavors, even if that means an almost certain retirement from plying the gondolier's trade along the rivers in Providence. Buona fortuna, Michele!
Quotations:
"I have had a lot of jobs, doing a lot of things in a lot of places. But I can honestly say that I have never done anything that I enjoy more, or find more rewarding, than working at LGP." - Mich (pronounced 'Mick')
"We're not singers who row, we're rowers who sing. Try to sing. Vaguely pretend to attempt to sing." - Mich
"I swear, that wall/speaker/WaterFire brazier/boat just came out of nowhere!" - Mich
